Individuals who filed for a 6 month extension for filing their Federal 2005 form 1040 have until October 16th to file. Failure to meet this deadline can result in the Failure to File Penalty which is 5 percent a month up to 5 months, meaning in this case an additional 25% owed on balance due returns. Take steps now to get your return filed. Another reason for wrapping up your 2005 Federal return is that the three year statute of limitations doesn't start running until you do file this or any 1040 return.
