Think twice before you agree to a Rapid Refund or Refund Anticipation Loan (RAL). Consumer's groups, Financial advisers, and even some State governments have advised against them. Generally, they are a waste of your money, having in some cases effective interest rates in excess of 100%. There is a better alternative. Use a direct deposit of your refund (or refunds if you have a state refund coming too) along with an efile of your return. Most tax firms do not charge for a direct deposit or efile, as those options are becoming pretty standard.

Just recently (9/29/06) I noticed one of our clients received their Federal refund direct deposit only eleven days after the date of the efile.
