With the passing of October 16th, 2006, the e-filing season has come to an end. The IRS will no longer accept 2005 form 1040s through any e-filing program. You must submit a paper return. Some states also use the same date to close their programs for the year, Minnesota for instance.

You also cannot file amendments (form 1040X) electronically. Amendments have always been filed on paper.  Perhaps in the future, the IRS will extend the date for when it accepts e-files, and start a 1040X e-filing program.
